Lead Architect

Position summary:

The Lead Architect will provide architectural leadership for complex semiconductor manufacturing and advanced-technology projects, working within an integrated multidisciplinary team. The role will lead facility planning and architectural design for cleanroom, subfab, utility, support, office and logistics areas, translating client operational requirements into safe, compliant, buildable and efficient solutions.

Projects may include feasibility and site-selection studies, master planning, concept and schematic design, design development, construction documentation, tender support and services during construction across design-bid-build, design-build and EPCM delivery models.

The successful candidate will be a proactive and collaborative technical leader with strong client-facing, communication and coordination skills. They will be accountable for architectural quality, programme and budget performance, and will promote safety, sustainability, digital delivery, standardisation and continuous improvement in a fast-paced project environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the architectural scope from early planning through detailed design, construction and handover for semiconductor manufacturing facilities.
  • Act as the primary architectural interface with clients, end users, project management, construction teams, authorities and specialist vendors.
  • Develop and review site masterplans, building layouts, cleanroom and subfab arrangements, personnel and material flows, adjacency strategies, egress and maintainability requirements.
  • Coordinate architectural design with structural, civil, mechanical, electrical, process, life-safety, security and tool-install disciplines in an integrated BIM environment.
  • Establish the architectural basis of design, design criteria, specifications, drawings, schedules and technical deliverables.
  • Lead design reviews, interdisciplinary coordination, constructability reviews, design risk assessments and technical assurance activities.
  • Ensure compliance with planning, building regulations, fire and life-safety requirements, accessibility standards, BCAR obligations and applicable client and industry standards.
  • Plan and manage architectural resources, deliverables, interfaces, quality, change, schedules and discipline budgets.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring and guidance to architects, designers and BIM personnel across local and global delivery teams.
  • Support proposals, scope definition, execution planning, effort estimates, fee development and client presentations.
  • Champion sustainable design, health and safety by design, digital delivery, standardisation and lessons learned.

Education & experience:

  • Degree in Architecture or an equivalent recognised professional qualification.
  • RIAI registration, or eligibility for equivalent professional registration, is preferred.
  • Typically 10+ years of relevant architectural design and project delivery experience, including leadership of multidisciplinary design teams.
  • Demonstrable experience on semiconductor, microelectronics, advanced manufacturing or similarly complex high-technology industrial facilities.
  • Strong understanding of cleanroom facilities, subfab and utility interfaces, equipment and service access, material and personnel flows, contamination-control principles and high-density building services coordination.
  • Experience across concept, basis of design, detailed design, tender, construction and site support phases.
  • Sound knowledge of Irish and European building regulations, planning, fire and life safety, accessibility, BCAR and relevant architectural standards.
  • High proficiency in Revit and BIM-enabled delivery; working knowledge of AutoCAD, Navisworks and common data environments is desirable.
  • Proven ability to lead technical reviews, resolve cross-discipline interfaces and communicate effectively with clients, contractors, vendors and international delivery teams.
  • Strong commercial awareness, including scope, schedule, resource, budget and change management.
  • Excellent written and spoken English, with a commitment to quality, safety, sustainability and collaborative delivery.
