Our client in the midlands is looking for a Utilities Engineer. You will play a critical role in ensuring the reliable operation, compliance, lifecycle management, and continuous improvement of black utility systems within a cGMP environment.

Main Job Tasks

Utility System Performance & Compliance

  • Monitor, review, and update existing system processes and performance to improve efficiency, reliability, and compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Conduct risk assessments to identify potential hazards or vulnerabilities in utility systems and develop mitigation strategies, ensuring they meet operational requirements and industry standards.
  • Operate and maintain major utility equipment (e.g. cooling towers, steam systems, electrical distribution, fire protection, water and waste management systems, dust extraction, etc.), ensuring compliance with quality, safety, and environmental expectations.
  • Diagnose and resolve system failures and handle deviations (unexpected events) with support from the maintenance team, while minimising disruption to site operations.

 

Commissioning, Qualification & Validation (CQV)

  • Lead CQV strategy and execution for black utilities (chilled water, LPHW, steam, compressed air).
  • Develop maintenance strategies and establish handover requirements for black utility systems.
  • Drive utility start-up readiness and performance verification.

 

Asset Management & Reliability

  • Maintain technical documentation packs for black utility systems, ensuring high standards are maintained.

 

Sustainability & Continuous Improvement

  • Monitor plant data and trends to reduce carbon footprint, improve energy efficiency, and support sustainability initiatives.

 

Training & Technical Support

  • Support the development of skillsets within the engineering team.
  • Develop training programmes and deliver training to maintenance craft personnel and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of BMS (Building Management Systems) and CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) would be advantageous.

 

Stakeholder & Contractor Management

  • Support the management of suppliers and contractors.
  • Ensure a high level of communication and cooperation with stakeholders.

 

Other Areas of Responsibility

  • Ensure knowledge sharing between colleagues.
  • Participate in external forums and remain up to date with industry best practices and benchmark data.

Knowledge & Experience

Education

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, or Process Engineering.

 

Experience

  • Typically 5+ years of experience working directly with industrial plant utilities in heavily regulated environments such as cGMP facilities.
  • Experience supporting construction and commissioning activities on live operational sites.
  • Familiarity with GMP requirements and working within regulated manufacturing facilities.
