DPS exploring advances in filling technologies at Informa’s Bioproduction Congress

24 October

Last week Barry Starkman, Principal Consultant, Sterile Manufacturing with DPS, presented at Informa’s Bioproduction Congress; Europe’s leading biomanufacturing conference.

In the focus session which explored Advances in Drug Product Manufacturing and Fill Finish Processing for Biopharmaceuticals, Barry presented a paper on Current Trends in Clinical Sterile Filling Facility Design.

Advances in filling technologies and potent/cytotoxic compounds have led to new demands in the clinical filling arena. The use of isolators, ready to use components and multi-format filling equipment allow for more flexible facilities capable of handling a wide variety of products in a single facility.  As part of his presentation, Barry explored the range of possibilities and considerations for such facilities.

Barry is a biopharmaceutical professional with over 30 years’ experience in biopharmaceutical facility design and operation and has held engineering and manufacturing leadership roles for global biopharmaceutical companies with responsibility for design, construction and start-up of major facilities.

Barry has a unique mix of manufacturing, engineering and senior corporate leadership experiences allowing unique insights into the design and implementation of robust facilities and business processes.

Barry has extensive experience in the operation of parenteral facility operations including potent compounds. His varied experience brings particular strengths in strategic master planning and early project feasibility and concept phases in the sterile manufacturing sector.
