EHS Environmental Specialist

DPS have a requirement for an EHS Environmental Specialist for a Midlands based Pharmaceutical client. 

Role responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with EHSS legislation, permit/ licence requirements and APIL policies/ procedures
  • Co-ordinate contracted monitoring, air monitoring, groundwater monitoring, toxicity testing, noise monitoring etc. as required per the IED licence
  • Manage and interpret EHS data, develop and issue reports, ensure completion and lodgement of all monthly, quarterly and annual reports
  • Manage third party consultants and certain suppliers for EHS compliance purposes
  • Manage the ISO Environmental, Health and Safety Systems on site, including maintenance of an appropriate document control system for the purpose of EPA and Local Authority auditing
  • Liaise with EPA, Local Authority, and other key stakeholders from time to time, including the management of complaints and responses
  • Take an active role in site’s environmental operational controls. i.e Balance tank operation, RTO
  • Ensure systems are developed to conform to OHSAS18001 and ISO14001 management systems
  • Assist in the implementation of programmes which ensure continued compliance with EHSS legislation, IED and ORP licences, other licences and Clients Global policies & procedures
  • Foster proactive, positive working relationships both with key stakeholders and colleagues within the EHSS function
  • Lead and plan investigations arising due to Environmental or Health & Safety incident on site in particular those relating to wastewater (process effluent & surface water) water issues and/or non-compliances as required.
  • Oversee site waste management procedures for haz412367.973393ardous and non-haz412367.973393ardous waste in conjunction with 3rd party vendors assigned to manage waste. 
  • Oversee other site critical maintenance and facility activities associated with IED Licence requirements e.g. bund & pipe work integrity testing in conjunction with Maintenance Department. 
  • Conduct EHSS risk assessments for operations/ tasks/ equipment/ systems/ facilities etc. as required.
  • Provide general administration support to the EHSS team & site on EHSS E-Systems e.g. permit / contractor management  
  • Assist, organise and provide EHSS training as required.
  • Ensure compliance with site policies and procedures in addition to reviewing policies & procedures in line with current best practise and regulatory requirements.  

Role requirements:

  • 2/3 years’ experience in manufacturing (pharma/biopharma/chemical) environment with IPPC/IED, Waste License or Environmental consultancy environment is preferred
  • Good experience to ISO, Environmental, Health and Safety Systems, Quality Systems 
  • Motivated self-starter able to autonomously develop and implement programmes of work
  • Excellent verbal and written communicator
  • Focused on service delivery and continuous improvement
  • High attention to detail regarding reports etc. and dedicated to completing work plans on time and in line with the compliance work schedule
