DPS is seeking a junior level Structural Engineer, that is eager to learn in a collaborative environment, to join our Cary, NC team and support our growing workload. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual to expand our structural team and develop their career. This Structural Engineer will work directly with the Structural Department and DPS internal teams on projects of all scales, from existing structure renovations to new buildings and expansions. Primary responsibilities will include assisting with the design and planning process for multi-faceted production facilities and the production and coordination of structural construction documents under the direction of the Structural Department Manager. The right candidate will have a strong structural engineering educational background, EI certification, and 2 to 5 years of structural work experience, with a goal of registration as a Professional Engineer or recent registration as a PE. Additional qualifications include Bachelor/Master of Structural Engineering degree(s) and proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD. Familiarity with Bentley’s RAM Structural Design software is a distinct advantage. This position requires strong organizational and communication skills.

Responsibilities:

  •    Assist the Structural Department Manager by taking responsibility for portions of the project design work, including leading design development, contract document preparation, and construction administration services for the project team
  •    Collaborate with the architectural team members, other discipline engineers, clients, and consultants to execute project goals
  •    Participate in company initiatives for quality control and ISO 9000 certification
  •    Work with clients, contractors, and local building officials under the direction of the Structural Department Manager to coordinate construction issues
  •    Research building materials and incorporate into project specifications
  •    Mentor junior designers in computer aided drawing, code research, product research, and construction document creation, drawing and detailing, as required
  •    Support the Structural team on projects by effectively multi-tasking, delegating as required, and collaborating in a team environment

Qualifications:

  •    Bachelors/Master of Engineering degree with 2-5 years of structural design experience
  •    Experience with aspects of biotech and pharmaceutical industries or laboratory design is a bonus, but not a requirement
  •    Professional registration/licensure career path
  •    Experience engaging with team members to develop projects to completion
  •    Must have strong knowledge and experience with Revit and AutoCAD; Structural Design software experience is a plus
  •    Good report and technical writing skills desired with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  •    Good interpersonal skills, must be attentive and approachable
  •    Excellent written and communication skills
  •    Be design-oriented with a positive “can-do” attitude and willingness to learn and think outside the box
  •    Understanding of building codes for structural design
