Commissioning Safety Officer Lead

DPS Group Global has an urgent need for an experienced Commissioning Safety Officer Lead to support our pharmaceutical client’s new facility. The expectation for this position is to spend 90% of time in the field leading and assisting start up, commissioning, and verification teams with identification of hazards and mitigation plans. The selected candidate will have at least 10 years of experience on pharmaceutical construction projects with strong experience in start-up and commissioning safety.

Key responsibilities:

  • Spend 90% of their time in the field, observing, mentoring and coaching of utility and equipment start-up, commissioning, and verification teams. 
  • Review and approve all Safe Plans of Action and Risk Assessments for each task, to ensure they are effective and complete.
  • Assist start-up, commissioning, and verification teams with identification of haz382175.285454ards and mitigation plans.
  • Assist in the execution of the Verification Safety Orientation 
  • Assist in the execution of the LOTO / Intrusive work training module (This involves field work with an UF/DF skid).
  • Perform periodic audits of the commissioning LOTO program.
  • Assist/perform monthly/quarterly inspections of any commissioning/verification components (extension cords, harnesses, retractables, lanyards, etc….).
  • Never walk past an unsafe act or condition.
  • Be a champion of the Safety Behavioral Program. Generate at least one Safety Observation (SOR) a day. Review the SOR’s weekly and trend what they are telling us.
  • Participate in the weekly safety walk and follow up meeting.
  • Participate in daily Start-up Team coordination meetings

Education & experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering OR Construction management discipline OR a B.Tech in Safety and fire engineering or a B.Tech in industrial engineering. Will also consider a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) with an ASP or a CSP qualification. OSHA 30 required.  OSHA 500 preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience on Construction Projects preferable Pharma or Oil & Gas with experience supporting start-up and commissioning phase. 
  • Ability to read/understand P&IDs and electrical single line drawings.
  • “Hands on” training for LOTO and intrusive work on line breaks, etc.
