Area/Piping Superintendent


The successful Piping Superintendent will have a Mechanical/Piping Trade Background or an Engineering Degree in Mechanical with 5+ years’ experience in construction.


Key responsibilities:

•        Ensure that all assigned personnel and construction contractors’ supervision and manpower are fully instructed and motivated with respect to DPS Health, Safety, Environment (HSE) policy, site security, site regulations, permit to work procedures and instructions and Client requirements.


•        Ensure that all contractors adhere strictly to the latest Issued for Construction (IFC) project drawings, specifications, procedures and site instructions.


•        Ensure by leadership and guidance, that all contracted works under his control meet all practical, commercial, requirements of productivity, quality and contract completions.



•        Supervise and co-ordinate the activities of construction supervisors and engineers within assigned areas. Provide daily supervisory surveillance checks and records, ensuring that contractors’ management and supervision are providing safe working conditions and permitting procedures, all required competent personnel, protective equipment, adequately experienced/qualified supervision and manpower, with reliable, well maintained equipment to execute the contracted works as per contract schedule and targets.


•        Ensure that contractors understand and implement the DPS site HSES plan, including the provision of toolbox talks, visible and relevant safety signs, safety surveillance, installation and maintenance of fire-fighting equipment, firewatchers, audible emergency warning signal, wind socks, muster areas, and emergency evacuation drills.


•        Agree method statements, risk assessments and job safety analysis. Ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with the agreed method statements.


•        Ensure that all haz502880.293272ardous activities have an agreed method statement and risk assessment before commencement of work.


•        Maintain DPS supervisory attendance at all contractor toolbox talks and safety meetings.  Encourage contractors’ safety incentive schemes and DPS, Client and contractors team building efforts.


•        Routinely study, check, review and validate all contractors work scopes eg. piping, steel erection, mechanical etc.  Ensure all contractors proper interpretation and compliance with latest revision AFC drawings and specifications.


•        Ensure proper control of changes by issuing FI’s for all changes, reviewing TQ’s to ensure responses are appropriate and practical, and reviewing ARN’s prior to issue to contractors to ensure correct use of construction resources.


•        Assist piping, steel erection and mechanical contractors in their take-over and access of work areas and foundations.  Ensure that civil and area handover documentation is available, relevant and that mechanical and area contractors can effectively access and accept their work areas and job faces.


•        Ensure that contractors dimensionally survey and accept their work areas and commence contracted works within schedule time requirements, mobilising supervision, materials and equipment in practical logical sequences.


•        Ensure that all contractors working on site have temporary facilities, equipment and hand tools etc. that are fully capable of supporting contractors site needs in the execution of contracted works to meet schedule completions.


•        Agree the extent and location of laydown and fabrication areas, access routes and material receipt, storage and preservation procedures with contractors’ management and supervision. 


•        Provide contractors with scheduled completion target details to enable efficient planning of fabrication, erection and testing activities. Together with the contractors planning engineers, develop detailed daily and weekly work plans to facilitate project schedule completions.


•        Ensure supervisors carry out the witness, inspection and surveillance checks in accordance with the DPS site quality plan and the requirements of the Chief Field Engineer.


•        Ensure contractors carry out and record all quality control checks and tests as detailed in the project quality plan, specifications and method statements. In conjunction with contractors and DPS Turnover Engineer, agree and provide on a timely basis, all necessary hand over documentation in accordance with the scheduled pre-commissioning and commissioning start up requirements.


•        In conjunction with each contractor, develop a schedule of tie-in, interface and terminal points. Identify the hand over sequence on a system by system, area by area basis, all scheduled to produce logically planned work completions for commissioning and start-up requirements.


•        In conjunction with Client, Operator, contractors and DPS Commissioning Engineer and HSES Officer, develop all necessary safe working and tag/lock out procedures for implementation during pre-commissioning and commissioning works.


•        Promote and maintain DPS, Client and contractor best practice working relationships.
