Civil Superintendent

 

The successful Civil Superintendent will ensure that all assigned personnel are instructed in and comply with all aspects of the DPS Health, Safety, Environment (HSE) policy, site security, site regulations, permit to work procedures and instructions and Client requirements. A Trade Background in CSA or a Qualification in Engineering/Architecture with 5+ years’ experience on site.

 

You will ensure that civil/structural/building contractors adhere strictly to the latest Issued for construction (IFC) project drawings, specifications, procedures and site instructions. Ensure by leadership and guidance, that civil contracted works under his control meets all practical, commercial, requirements of productivity, quality and contract target completions.

 

 

Duties:

Supervise and co-ordinate the activities of assigned construction supervisors and engineers. Maintain daily supervisory surveillance checks and records, ensuring that contractors management and supervision are providing safe working conditions and permitting procedures, all required competent personnel, protective equipment, adequate supervision and manpower, with reliable, well maintained equipment to execute the contracted works as per contract schedule and targets.

 

Routinely study, check and review all contractors scope as detailed in drawings, specifications and instructions, ensuring contractors proper interpretation and compliance with latest revision AFC drawings and specifications.

 

Ensure proper control of changes by issuing Contractor Instructions (CI’s) for all changes, reviewing Site Queries (SQ’s) to ensure responses are appropriate and practical, and reviewing Field Change Notices (FCN’s) prior to issue to contractors to ensure correct use of construction resources.

 

Ensure contractors dimensional control methods for checking that all works are properly set out and satisfactory. Supervise specialist surveying contractors when necessary.

 

Ensure supervisors carry out the witness, inspection and surveillance checks in accordance with the DPS site quality plan and the requirements of the Chief Field Engineer.

 

Ensure that contractors are working in the required work areas, locations and elevations and that work sequences and interfaces with other contractors are both coordinated and planned to provide logical progress and target completions as per the contract schedule and daily work plan.

 

Ensure all quality control checks and tests are instigated, with records maintained and available as required for concrete mix design, batching operations, concrete pour, foundation release, grouting release, area release etc., all in accordance with contractors quality plan, method statements and project specifications. Where applicable supervise the testing laboratory.

 

Ensure effective control and design of all falseworks, shuttering and formworks.  Check that access roads/routes and equipment are in accordance with practical temporary works procedures and calculations.  Where necessary, ensure competent technical review of temporary works design etc.

 

Ensure practical security and protection of the works and that all contractors’ provisions for temporary lighting, transport, vehicles, concreting plant, hand tools etc. are in adequate supply and totally fit for purpose.

 

Ensure effective site speed control, with safety speed limit signs available and that there are sufficient direction signs indicating access roads/routings for planned transport of manpower and materials to workface locations and storage areas.

 

Ensure that all construction materials, embedded items, special fixtures etc are approved for use and that they are stored, protected and available to workface locations as required.

 

Agree method statements, risk assessments and job safety analysis. Ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with the agreed method statements.

 

Ensure that a risk assessment has been undertaken and agreed prior to commencement of any new type of work activity if the activity has any potential risk to material or personnel.

 

Maintain DPS supervisory attendance at contractor’s toolbox talks and safety meetings.  Encourage contractor’s safety incentives and DPS/contractor team building.

 

Promote and maintain DPS, Client and contractor best practice working relationships.
