Purpose of Job

To directly manage the resource within the Manufacturing or Filling and Packing Department on one of the three shifts; Double Day (x2), Nights. This requires the effective use of equipment, processes, systems and personnel over this shift to ensure:

Delivery of agreed production plans and programmes of work

Maintaining good standards of GMP, Health & Safety and Security

Development of team performance, supported by a Shift Co-ordinator and 20+ technicians

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

People Management

To effectively manage the Manufacturing or Filling and Packing team comprising of one co-ordinator and 20+ technicians and administrative support functions, whilst complying with all regulatory Codes of Practice.

Supervision, coaching and development of all personnel, ensuring training records are maintained and needs analysis are completed, with appropriate progression through the Grading Structure

To ensure a flexible, competent and high performing workforce is maintained, that is committed to the highest level of product quality and customer service.

To maintain departmental discipline, apply and enforce the Company Disciplinary procedure as appropriate.

To create a culture which encourages open discussion to resolve Production issues and to promote the company vision and values.

To carry out regular informal and formal Personal Development Reviews with all staff as part of their development in line with the Company policy.

Process Management

Ensure delivery of the Production plans.

Ensure programmes of work are met by effective resource management.

Data capture and analysis to support operational improvements.

Support Quality Management Process; including Deviation and Change Control Process, leading Root Cause Analysis Investigations.

Lead process initiatives to develop a culture of continuous improvement.

Communicate through briefing sessions to groups of people within Production, communicating targets, performance against them and main operational highlights.

Identify and recommend improvements to operational practices and implement changes as appropriate.

Project Management

To ensure that the necessary training/knowledge transfer is delivered to support projects within the Production Department.

To lead projects generated from relevant process improvement initiatives.

Health & Safety Management

To monitor Health & Safety, ensuring compliance for personnel. To take an active role in completion of risk assessments and operation of the appropriate action plans.

Liaise closely with the Occupation Health Department to ensure any actions are implemented.

To undertake any other reasonable tasks that are requested to help ensure that the highest standard of product manufacture and packaging are achieved and maintained.
