Safety Specialist

 

Reporting to the Head, Safety and Environment the successful Safety Specialist will be responsible in protecting the welfare of employees, contractors and neighbours through the use of state-of-the-art risk management and loss control techniques thus ensuring compliance with corporate and national directives, legislation, regulations and codes of practice.

 

Education and experience

 

Formal qualification to degree level in Occupational Health and Safety or a primary degree in Engineering, Science or equivalent, in conjunction with a recogniz915576.779592ed Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety

Chartered membership of The Chartered Institute of Occupational Safety and Health would be an advantage

Experience and proven capabilities in developing and implementing world class health & safety management systems in a construction projects environment with a minimum of 8 years' experience in a related role.

A sound up to date knowledge of present and forthcoming Irish legislation and European directives.

 

 

Responsibilities will include

 

Develop and implement a SHE management system which Is suitable for the decommissioning, demolition and remediation projects which the site will undertake, addressing site access, security, project induction, first aid, welfare and emergency arrangements

Communicate and co-ordinate the adoption of industry best practices in health & safety on the project and in current site activities.

Maintain the Safety Management System through auditing and inspections. Report on the health of the SMS using appropriate leading and lagging indicators.

Formulate policies and procedures in relation to construction activities for the project and ongoing site construction activities.

Lead participate and review risk assessments.

Develop, co-ordinate and deliver training programmes as required.

Support the Project's Construction Manager in the execution of health & safety related statutory duties.

Ensure full compliance with local and national Health & Safety legislation pertaining to project construction phase

Assist with the investigation of incidents, ensuring root cause analysis is completed and corrective actions are implemented to the required standards.

Maintain compliance with the company's IS045001 accredited safety management system
