Aspire2 selected to receive SIFI Education Fund

Friday 03 November 2017

DPS are proud to announce that our Aspire2 student support programme has been selected as one of ten winners of the Social Innovation Fund Ireland (SIFI)’s Education Fund.

The winners were announced on Tuesday 24th October by the Minister for Education and Skills, Richard Bruton TD, at an event at Smock Alley Theatre in Dublin. The Education Fund has identified the “best in class” innovative education programmes that serve as models of excellence in overcoming inequalities in education.

Aspire2 was established in 2015 as part of the DPS Corporate Social Responsibility strategy.  The driving vision of the Aspire 2 programme is to make a tangible contribution to redressing the systemic inequality in Irish education by supporting our participating schools to support students who live in areas of educational disadvantage by offering the following supports:

  • Support students in their personal growth and development
  • Motivate and encourage them to complete their second level education successfully
  • Help them to achieve leaving certificate results that reflect their true potential
  • Provide them with opportunities to progress further through the education system
  • Help them to realise their potential and their aspirations

This funding has allowed Aspire2 to expand to include 6 partner schools in year three as oppose to four; Cork – St. Aidan’s Community College Dublin Hill,  St Patrick’s College Gardiner’s Hill , North Presentation Farranree and Dublin - St. Dominic’s Secondary School Ballyfermot,  Kylemore College Ballyfermor & Rosary College Crumlin. We are closely supported by our third level access partners; UCD, Trinity College, IT Tallaght, UCC & CIT.

In the first 2 years of Aspire2 the programme has provided assistance to over 200 students. Supports include mentoring from DPS employees, work placements , youth advisory panels and a wide range of in-school initiatives such as extra tuition, personal development workshops, Gaeltacht scholarships, cultural visits, motivational workshops and after-schools study hubs.

Our first cohort of Aspire2 students got their leaving certificate results in August 2017 and we are delighted to report very encouraging results in terms of progression, results and skills development
